A Sediment Water Filter removes physical debris and impurities from your water. The filter has tiny holes that allow water to pass through, while trapping unwanted particles. The filter sizes are measured in microns, with smaller micron ratings indicating smaller holes that can capture finer particles. For more visibly polluted water with larger particles, a larger sediment filter (such as 20 or 50 microns) is recommended as the first stage to prevent clogging of subsequent filters.

This sediment filter is often the first filter installed in a Reverse Osmosis system, acting as a net to catch unwanted particles like sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine particles. The filter is made of fine melted polypropylene, blown and spun into a cylinder-like form. Polypropylene is resistant to chemical solvents, bases, and acids. Removing these particles allows other filters, such as Carbon Block or GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filters, to perform better and last longer.

The main difference between a Grooved Sediment Filter and a regular Sediment Filter is the surface area; the Grooved Sediment has a larger surface area, contributing to a longer lifespan and better filtration.
