Product Description High Capacity Whole House 10" X 4.5" Wound String Sediment Filter (4 Pack)
The Big 10" x 4.5" Wound String Sediment Filter is often the first filter installed in the Whole House Water Filter circuit. It is often the first point of contact between your water supply and your home and is used as a pre-filtration unit before the water continues to reverse osmosis and activated carbon filters. It catches unwanted particles, including sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine particles as they attempt to enter your house's water system. These particles and pollutants come from water sources, old and dirty pipes, as well as contaminants that are used to treat the water.
Wound String Sediment filters are made of fine melted of 100% polypropylene rope, which is then twisted around a plastic core in a cylinder. Such design allows for better dirt holding capacity, high filtration accuracy, and extended life than standard melt-blown sediment cartridges. They have a 30% longer service life than common sediment filters. The main function of a sediment filter is to remove large and fine particles from drinking water, such as sand, dirt, silt, and rust particles. Removal of such particles allows for better performance of all the following filters, such as Carbon Block or GAC filters.
The Big water filter has wider dimensions than standard water filters, allowing it to process more water in less time for your house. The main difference between a regular Sediment Filter and a Big Sediment Filter is the size; a Big Sediment Filter is usually used for filtering the water on the entrance into the house, appropriately called a whole house filter. It is able to filter a larger volume of water than a regular filter with its larger surface area, size, and radius.
String-wound filter cartridges provide a very efficient and cost-effective solution. Some of the benefits are: new melt-spinning and yarn forming process—no chemicals to leach out, continuous filaments—no short fibers means no media migration, high structural stability—no shifting of media, excellent knife-edge sealing, random yarn structure—gives improved filtration efficiency, higher void-to-solid ratio—more bulky yarn gives increased dirt holding capacity, lower pressure drop—liquid flows through the entire yarn structure, firmer structure—gives improved resistance to particle unloading, better performance—from more consistent micron rating, and computer-controlled winding—gives clear density grading inside to outside as strands are wound.
These Sediment Water Filters Intercept all Following Impurities: Extraordinary Dirt-Holding Capacity Superior contaminant holding capacity and superior flow rate compared to similar size sediment water filter cartridges. These cartridges will reduce sediment particles as small as 5 microns without adding taste, odor, or color to your water. Such filter cartridges are ideal for all residential, rural, commercial, industrial, and municipal applications.

The wound string design allows greater dirt holding capacity and a longer lifespan. It keeps water fresh by reducing sediment, scale, rust, dirt, and sands that include coarse sand, normal sand, fine sand, extra fine sand, and silt. This filter is a universal replacement for all 10-inch Big Water Filter Housing and well-matched models of cartridges. It has a product lifetime of 10,000 gallons and should be replaced two or three times a year, depending on your water quality and application. Suggested change-out is when the original water pressure drops by 25 PSI.
