Granular Activated Carbon is created from organic raw materials high in carbon, such as wood, coal, and lignite - a type of brown coal made from naturally compressed peat. These universal activated carbon filters are 2.5 x 9.875-inch, fitting most standard under-sink Reverse Osmosis water filtration units or any type of water filtration units with standard 10-inch housing. Granular Activated Carbon filters are usually used in Reverse Osmosis Systems before and after water passes through the membrane, with the pre-filter removing free chlorine to prevent deterioration of the thin film composite (TFC) membranes over time, and post-filters generally used to remove tastes and odors that may be picked up from the storage tank bladder.
