Product Description: The Big 10" x 4.5" Sediment Filter

The Big 10" x 4.5" Sediment Filter is often the first filter installed in a whole-house water filtration system. It serves as a pre-filtration unit, catching unwanted particles like sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine pollutants before the water passes through reverse osmosis and activated carbon filters.

These filters are made of fine, melt-blown polypropylene, spun into a cylindrical form. Removing these particles allows downstream filters and household appliances to perform better for longer. The Big filter's wider dimensions allow it to process more water in less time compared to standard filters.

The sediment filter has tiny holes that allow water to pass through while trapping unwanted particles. The filter size is measured in microns - the smaller the micron rating, the smaller the holes and the finer the particles that can be removed. For visibly polluted water, a larger micron filter is recommended initially to prevent clogging of the next stage.
